Collect more recyclables, not more rubbish

December 3rd, 2012

Schemes funded by ‘Pickles’ Pot’ are in line with findings and recommendations in 2011, says Icaro Consulting and Sauce Consultancy.

Launched on 1 December last year, the 2011 survey ‘Attitudes to waste and recycling in Great Britain’showed that people weren’t too worried about how often their bin was collected, it was how good the service is that really mattered. This conflicts directly with Eric Pickles’ recent comment that ‘Every Englishman has a basic right to have their household rubbish taken away each and every week.’ A statement that has caused much consternation amongst the industry. 3G Sauce at RWMaction-tshirt

Sauce Consultancy, now part of 3G Communications, had another successful three days at the RWM – in partnership with CIWM – exhibition in Birmingham. Delivered with SLR Consulting and the ASPRG, the Communications Hub hosted a packed schedule of one-to-ones, media sessions, seminars, discussions and debates on themes of Policy, Challenges, and Localism which all fed into the main theme of the week: ‘Communicating effectively’.

stop-press

Bringing together leading thinkers and practitioners from across the industry, the Hub provided a space for visitors to enjoy a variety of topical discussions along with complimentary beverages and biscuits!

Over the course of the exhibition the Communications Hub proved to be one of the most popular destinations to visit.

The Hubcomms-hub

A successful week of discussions and debates saw members of both Houses of Parliament grace the stage, including, Baroness Jenkin of Kennington and Alan Whitehead MP, co-chairs of the APSRG. A whole host of issues were covered across the week, from engaging politicians, myth-busting science and fiction, proactive versus reactive communications, and the importance of engaging meaningfully.

3G Sauce welcomed colleagues and experts from across the sector to contribute towards the discussions. Leading thinkers from the likes of CIWM, WRAP, PSRG, FCC, Viridor, Bevan Brittan, The Consultation Institute, SLR Consulting, Somerset Waste Partnership and Derbyshire County Council all gave superb insights into the current landscape for recycling and waste management into 2012 and beyond.

With excellent feedback from attendees who listened and engaged in discussions, the 3G Sauce team were absolutely delighted with the quality and standard of the lively debate witnessed across the three days.

The Media

The hub hosted daily “Meet the Journalist” sessions with industry journalists and media specialists from MRW, Vada Media, Edie, Recycling & Waste World, Letsrecycle, and CIWM Journal. Discussions varied from how to engage the media, developing relationships with journalists, value for money, with a special emphasis on the effective use of social media.

Networking

One of the highlights of the week for all involved is the opportunity to network with professionals working in the industry or just being able to catch-up with old contacts. The Communications Hub provided the ideal space for networking with a coffee and tea on tap, and hosted over 500 visitors across the three days.

From the 3G Sauce team, thank you to all the speakers who took part and all the visitors that stopped by. We look forward to seeing you again next year!

3G Communications and Sauce Consultancy to merge

July 2nd, 2012

3G Communications and Sauce Consultancy have announced a merger which brings together two leading specialists in infrastructure and planning communications and consultation.

Together the companies will provide public consultation, community and stakeholder engagement, media relations, public affairs, project and corporate communications and project marketing. 3G’s focus is on large development projects and stakeholder engagement, whilst Sauce is a specialist in recycling, waste management and local planning, concentrating on local development and behavior change programmes.

The merger will combine 3G’s major project communications skills with Sauce’s specialist knowledge of working with infrastructure and waste management companies, and local authorities.  For the first year Sauce will trade as a part of 3G.  The consultancy plans to relaunch its combined business in summer 2013.

Claire Gordon, 3G’s founder and MD, said: “3G and Sauce is an exciting meeting of minds, and joining forces will provide considerable enhancements for our clients, staff and services.  3G has an unrivalled knowledge of major projects, particularly in the transport and energy sectors.  Sauce will supplement this expertise with their creative energy and engaging approach to community involvement. These skills will be particularly important as the energy sector develops and is required to meet the challenges presented by smaller-scale community-sized facilities, smart grids and energy efficiency targets.”

John Twitchen, Sauce’s founder and MD, said: “We’re delighted to be able to draw on 3G’s expertise and professional reputation within the industry to expand the joint portfolio.  This partnership reflects the growing significance of resource efficiency, the green economy and the role of community involvement in infrastructure planning.”

The companies’ combined client list includes National Grid, Western Power Distribution, RWE npower renewables, South West Housing Initiative, Bovis Homes, Crossrail, Wavegarden, Skanska, FCC Environment, Urbaser, Balfour Beatty, Amec and Vale.

The company’s head office is in London’s Manchester Square, with regional offices in Bristol, Ipswich, and Cumbria.

3G and Sauce have each been awarded partnership status with The Consultation Institute, which recognises best practice in public consultation.  Claire Gordon is a Board Director of the Major Projects Association and 3G is a member of the Public Relations Consultants Association (PRCA).

Sauce is a member of the Renewable Energy Association, and works closely with the Chartered Institution of Wastes Management to offer communications training, and will again deliver the Communications Hub in partnership with SLR Consulting at the annual Recycling & Waste Management Exhibition in Birmingham (11-13 September 2012). John Twitchen is vice-chair of the Consultation Institute’s Advisory Board.

Charitable Sauce – we need your help!

May 31st, 2012

Sauce Consultancy is supporting two very different but equally important charity events currently and this is a plea for a little bit of help from you, our valued Sauce friends!

Tour de Force 2012

Sauce MD and cycling enthusiast, John Twitchen, has, in a moment of madness, committed to riding over 900km of the infamous Tour de France route as part of the Tour de Force 2012 team. John’s week’s worth of stages will see him head up and down the Pyrenees, even reaching 2115m at the peak of the Col du Tourmalet, cruise through the beautiful French countryside and complete the final victory leg into Paris.

The Tour de Force 2012 follows the official Tour de France route from start to finish, one week ahead of the professionals, to raise money for The William Wates Memorial Trust. This worthy charity helps disadvantaged young people fulfil their potential through sports, art and education. The Trust exists to celebrate the life of William Wates (1977-1996) who was tragically killed when travelling in South America. More information can be found at www.wwmt.org

Donating a few £££s couldn’t be simpler – just follow this link and give whatever you can, every penny counts! http://www.bmycharity.com/johntwitchenTdF2012

Calling all unloved and disused mobile phones!

Another charity close to Sauce’s heart is Jo’s Trust, www.jostrust.org.uk, which supports the fight against cervical cancer. We are collecting old mobile phones which will be used to raise money for the charity. So please search your drawers at home and at the office and see if you have any old handsets lying around. Drop us a line @SauceConsult or via info@sauceconsultancy.co.uk and we will send you a freepost envelope so your handsets can join the pile and raise some cash for a good cause!

Thank you to everyone in advance for your generosity – we really do appreciate it!
