Much of the focus on PFIs and major contracts is on identifying, managing and mitigating risk. The planning process and the risk of delays in achieving permission for a new facility presents one of the key risks. One aspect of risk management in this area that is often overlooked is the importance of consultation and community involvement – an area that is easy to get wrong, but also is a risk that can be managed and mitigated.
