Getting your voice heard

“How do I ensure my message is properly conveyed?” is a question we often get asked at Sauce, particularly when working with the media. As environmental issues have become a hot issue of discussion on news desks around the country more people within the recycling and waste management industry are increasingly being asked to comment on different stories.

But how prepared are people to speak to the media, ensuring their voice is properly heard and the right information is provided?

Those of you who wish to get time with journalists should come along to the Communications Hub at Futuresource in June, where you’ll get the opportunity to interact with journalists from the national, local and trade press. We’ll be running short presentations throughout the show from journalists who will provide tips on how to deal with the press, what their point of view is and what issues are shaping their agenda.

The interactive sessions will bring the opportunity to dispel some of the myths surrounding media relations and generate discussions on how the industry can engage better with the press.

In addition for those who would like some one to one training we’ll be running 10 media training slots over the three days. The training, which covers interview techniques for TV, radio and press, will be filmed and feedback provided to the participants. Don’t worry, filming will take place just off the exhibition hall so you won’t be in the full glare of the public.

These sessions are being run with CIWM, as part of its training programme. And for those of you with any other communication dilemmas can sign up to our Sauce Sachet Service. All staff will be on hand to provide advice on a wide range of communication problems or opportunities visitors may have.

The Communications Hub is on stand FT6 at Futuresource, Excel London 9-11 June 2009.
