Architects – “too much consultation inhibits great design”

Sauce’s managing director John Twitchen spoke at an RIBA debate on behalf of The Consultation Institute on 14 October. The debate was chaired by current RIBA President Ruth Reed, and speaking alongside John against the motion “this house believes too much consultation inhibits great design” was journalist and author Anna Minton. Architect Alex Lifschutz and author and cultural commentator Stephen Bayley spoke for the motion.

At the half-way point the audience was split 50:50; but by the end of the debate it was clear that the majority had been swayed by John and Anna’s arguments and responses under intense questioning, even though the result was declared as a draw!
