Switch off and support WWF’s Earth Hour 2010

On 27 March 2010, WWF is aiming for a billion people around the world to switch off their lights for one hour for WWF’s ‘Earth Hour’. With 807 cities, towns and municipalities and 82 countries across every continent already signed up, Earth Hour 2010 is set to show the world that a resolution to the threat of global warming is possible through collective action.

In March 2009, the third Earth Hour was a huge success with hundreds of millions of people around the world showing their support by turning off their lights for one hour. Over 4000 cities in 88 countries officially switched off to pledge their support for the planet, making Earth Hour 2009 the world’s largest global climate change initiative.

Homes, office buildings, town halls and public places around the globe will be switching their lights off in a call to stand up, take responsibility and get involved in working towards a sustainable future. 75 iconic landmarks around the world have already signed up to lead a global display of climate action, including Golden Gate Bridge, London Eye, Table Mountain and Taipei 101.

Andy Ridley, Earth Hour Co-Founder and Executive Director, said “The actions shown by cities of the world and their inhabitants are crucial to leading a low-carbon resolution to climate change. The C40, a group of the world’s largest cities committed to tackling climate change *, suggests that cities are responsible for up to 75% of the world’s carbon emissions, so their role in addressing what is unequivocally the greatest threat to the planet today is absolutely vital. By turning the lights off their landmarks for Earth Hour, cities are reflecting the aspirations of their citizens as a community that has resolved to take action on global warming.”

Unless average temperatures rising 2°C above pre-industrial levels are prevented, there is a high risk of severe and irreversible changes in the planet’s natural systems. Sauce is an environmental communications company and experts in climate change. We can help with all aspects of business’s communications, consultation and community engagement needs.  Every member of our team is observing the Earth Hour which means we will contribute 9 hours; by getting five friends and relatives to do like wise we’ve already increased it to nearly two days of light saving!

Earth Hour 2010 is set to be a landmark moment on global warming, so please join the Sauce team in making a difference – turn off your lights at 8.30pm (local time) Saturday 27 March and sign up here http://www.earthhour.org/ to be counted!
