Getting the message across: Futuresource 2010 shines the spotlight on the role of effective communications
After an extremely successful inaugural event last year, Sauce Consultancy is once again teaming up with the Chartered Institution of Wastes Management (CIWM) to run the Communications Hub at Futuresource 2010, the European event for the sustainable waste, recycling and resource management sector and its major client base.
How to stimulate informed debate, turning green policy into action, understanding the triggers of behaviour change – these are just some of the hot topics that leading national journalists and communications experts will be discussing over three days in June at Futuresource 2010. Bringing communications alive on the exhibition floor, the Communications Hub will provide a unique, interactive discussion forum where visitors can hear industry experts and representatives from the national and trade media.
A look at the programme
On Tuesday 15th June, the organisers are teaming up with the Associate Parliamentary Sustainable Resource Group to deliver a two stage panel debate looking at green policy and behaviour change imperatives for the next decade and the challenges of securing community buy-in for new infrastructure.
On the second day, a ‘Question Time’ styled debate chaired by the FT’s Fiona Harvey will tackle the thorny issue of ‘Good versus bad science – how to encourage informed debate’. Other sessions on the day include ‘New media – breaking the mould’ and ‘The fundamentals of engaging with a green society’ with Rob Holdway of Giraffe Innovation Ltd, one of the UK’s leading low carbon design and environmental management consultancies and Ruth Bond, Chair of National Federation of Women’s Institutes.
The final day sees a continuation of challenging issues head on with a robust panel session on ‘Protests – the good, the bad and the ugly’ with Dan Cooke, Public Affairs Manager at Viridor, Annette Dentith, Principle Waste Manager for Devon County Council and Lucy Aitken-Read, Community and Activism Campaigner for Oxfam. Rounding off the programme will be a light hearted look at when communications go wrong including live examples from the show!
Free advice and media training
The Communications Hub is also designed to help waste professionals feel more confident about approaching and reacting to the media, and building relationships with journalists. Visitors and exhibitors can get advice on media relations from our team at Sauce Consultancy and former BBC news journalist Steve Bustin will be on hand each morning to provide tips on how to get the most out of the media, as well as running free media training sessions to help industry professionals prepare for press, TV and radio interviews (to book a free session email: press@ciwm.co.uk).
Cycling for sustainability
Sauce Consultancy is supporting Le Tour de Force in aid of the William Wates Memorial Trust. From 19th June 2010, Tour de Force riders, including Sauce Consultancy’s John Twitchen, will by cycling the Tour de France route two weeks before the professionals.
